All About the Wimberley Butterfly Festival
There’s a special day each year in April in Wimberley, when over 3800 butterflies are released throughout the day during a fantastic festival at the EmilyAnn Theatre and Gardens. This festival is known as the Wimberley Butterfly Festival. The day starts with a moving opening ceremony at the Veterans Memorial that includes an initial butterfly release to honor those who have lost their lives in the past year. After that, the festival kicks off, and attendees can enjoy crafts, games, bounce houses, delicious food, an exotic butterfly flight house, and much more!
Entrance to the Wimberley Butterfly is free for the whole family! However, the best way for children to enjoy the festival to the fullest is to purchase a festival wristband. These wrist bands give you access to exclusive fun-filled activities. In addition to unlimited visits to all of the activities, wristbands also grant you one visit to each of 10 craft stations, a children’s t-shirt, a small butterfly box with a live butterfly, and a colorful tote bag/backpack.
Activities are included in with your wristband purchase, or they can be purchased individually with Butterfly Bucks or cash. These awesome activities include:
- Very Hungry Caterpillar Story Tent
- Obstacle Course
- Princess Tent & Pirate Tent
- Face Painting
- Bounce Houses
- Dino Dig
In addition to the fun-filled activities, there is also a wide away of craft stations that children can enjoy. The crafts are included with your wristband purchase, or they can be purchased individually with Butterfly Bucks or cash. Some of these super-cool crafts include:
- Coffee Filter Butterflies
- Pom Pom Caterpillars
- Butterfly Life Cycle
- Seed Crafts
- Diffusing Butterfly Craft
- Cookie Decorating
- Paper Bag Butterflies
- Handprint Fireflies
Free Stations to Visit
If you choose not to purchase a wristband, you won’t be shorted on the fun. There’s a wide selection of free stations that your family can visit. Some of these stations include:
- Butterfly Releases
- Miniature Horses
- Tai-chi Tent
- Educational Talks
- Healthy Living Fair
- Master Naturalist Station

- And More!
Aside from the activities and crafts listed above, there’s more fun at the festival that everyone can enjoy. There are yummy concessions, festival merchandise stores, and an array of exhibitors and vendors.
